Each of these five brief tales is filled with humor, and James Marshall's drawings are guaranteed to spark feelings of empathy, delight, and self-recognition. George and Martha teach each other (and adoring readers) that even in a close friendship, privacy is important, practical jokes can sometimes backfire, and among other things, pouring split pea soup into your loafers to spare the chef's feelings is not the best-laid plan.Ī man with a talent for friendship, James Marshall defined its very essence in his stories about the world's two best friends. Like all best friends, George and Martha do everything together. In this picture book classic that belongs on every reader's shelf, two lovable hippos impart funny lessons on the true meaning of friendship. Marshall's success lies not just in the freshness of his sense of the ridiculous, but in the carefulness of his control and editorial judgment".-The New York Times Book Review. About the Book Two lovable hippos teach the meaning of friendship in five separate vignettes.

Her voice couldn't be more of a contrast: still tinged with the southern drawl of her native Baltimore, the cadences are sharp and resonant as they project her imagery and symbolism. Behind the sound-proof glass that separates the inner chamber from the banks of dials and diodes, she looks small and frail. In a cramped studio in Shepherd's Bush, Adrienne Rich is recording some of her work for the new Poetry Archive, a project that aims to make recordings of major poets available via the internet. As the book, and ultimately the trilogy unfold there are two story lines (1)finding and stopping Carlos and (2)David Webb, aka Jason Bourne, finding his way back to his real identity. When he got shot and left for dead at the start of the book and lost his memory the pieces of that false persona that came back were the result of his being immersed in the role for so long trying to complete his mission. Note that he wasn't brainwashed or part of a larger group of mummified hit men. In the book, a CIA agent took a false identity - Jason Bourne - who subsequently took credit for Carlos' murders in an attempt to flush Carlos out and end his career. The movie turned Ludlum's noble character into the freak result of the terribly twisted US government - great story in this day and age where its good sport in Hollywood to paint the American govt. Eliade thought of himself as a synthesis of contemplation and action. His mother, Ioana Stoian Vasile Eliade, was a native of the western region of Oltenia, whose people were considered ambitious, pragmatic, and energetic. (Though he and his family always celebrated his birthday on 9 March, his biographer Mac Linscott Ricketts has reported the discovery of official records listing his birthdate as 13 March 1907.) Eliade's father, Gheorghe Eliade, was an army officer and a native of Moldavia. Mircea Eliade was born in Bucharest, Romania, to a family that had strong Romanian roots. 5/12/2023 0 Comments Felicitas by Janusz A. ZajdelPhallic relief with the inscription "Felicitas dwells here" The English word "felicity" derives from felicitas. Her primary attributes are the caduceus and cornucopia. Felicitas continued to play an important role in Imperial cult, and was frequently portrayed on coins as a symbol of the wealth and prosperity of the Roman Empire. She appears with several epithets that focus on aspects of her divine power.įelicitas had a temple in Rome as early as the mid-2nd century BC, and during the Republican era was honored at two official festivals of Roman state religion, on July 1 in conjunction with Juno and October 9 as Fausta Felicitas. Felicitas, however, always had a positive significance. Fortuna was unpredictable and her effects could be negative, as the existence of an altar to Mala Fortuna ("Bad Luck") acknowledges. Although felicitas may be translated as "good luck," and the goddess Felicitas shares some characteristics and attributes with Fortuna, the two were distinguished in Roman religion. The divine personification of Felicitas was cultivated as a goddess. Felicitas could encompass both a woman's fertility and a general's luck or good fortune. In ancient Roman culture, felicitas (from the Latin adjective felix, "fruitful, blessed, happy, lucky") is a condition of divinely inspired productivity, blessedness, or happiness. "This is one of those books that haunts you long after you read it. Thought-provoking and magical." -Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson series A National Book Award Longlist title! "A wondrous book, wise and wild and deeply true." -Kelly Barnhill, Newbery Medal-winning author of The Girl Who Drank the Moon 5/12/2023 0 Comments Rr haywood extracted book 4Unfortunately, people are buying into this hype. In the end, you wind up paying 3 credits for essentially one book. I’ve come to realize that the Audible marketing machine is hyping formulaic “Fast-Food” books that hook you into buying the first of a series. Instead, you get overly detailed descriptions of fist fights, awkward sexual harassment, and the endless manic-depressive moaning of the main protagonist (BORING). The author tries to spin the story around the paradox of time travel and the intrigue of special operators, but there are no new perspectives or cool techno-geek deep dives on these topics. When compared to other time travel stories like “The First 15 Lives of Harry August “or “11-23-63: A Novel”, this book barely musters 3 stars. At best, it is mildly entertaining and barely worth a credit. Don’t be swayed (as I was) by the glowing reviews, because this is not a five-star book. 5/11/2023 0 Comments Charge by cate c wellsSo why is she livin' all up in my head?
